Chapin seeks to provide its residents with a safe, learning-conducive environment and foster a tight-knit community within Northwestern. Because of this, our events focus on starting conversations between residents on topics ranging from the moral implications of foreign policy, to which House of Cards character is the most complex and interesting. Fellows provide a professional opinion and teach residents things they might not otherwise learn in a classroom. Because we are the Humanities Residential College, most of our fellows are either in a humanities department or interested in the humanities, but students and fellows of all backgrounds can easily find a home in Chapin. Chapinos celebrate traditions like the Kaleidoscopic Flux, a weekly bathroom reader, weekly munchies, and Frivolous Readings, in which fellows read hilarious bits from various books, poems, and other satirical documents.
